About My Blog

Welcome to my blog. The name TransformerGirl comes from one of my favorite Bible passages, Romans 12:1–2, and it’s a name I’ve used since my hyper-charismatic days. Although my faith has since been reformed, the name still feels fitting. As Christians, our lives are continually being transformed to be more like Christ, and that ongoing transformation is the theme woven throughout this space.

Here, I share life updates, Bible studies, and reflections on my walk with God, all centered on the work the Lord continues to do in my life. My hope is that this blog will encourage you as we seek to grow in faith together.

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Romans 12:1-2 ESV

About Me

I’m Robin — a Christian, wife, mom, homeschool teacher, and homesteader. I have dreams of eventually becoming a full-time writer and/or podcaster, but for now I’m happy sharing just a few posts a year. I’ve been married to my husband, Matt, since 2013, and together we’re raising two young boys on our 15-acre homestead in northern Minnesota.

We document our homesteading journey on our YouTube channel, GunSmoke Farmstead. Life is full, busy, and always changing as I walk with the Lord, and I’m grateful for the season He has me in. My hope is that what I share here brings you joy, encouragement, and an opportunity for us to learn and grow together.

My Faith Journey

The story of my faith is central to who I am and everything I do. I am a born-again Christian, meaning I recognize and fully believe the gospel truth that Christ died for me while I was still a sinner, and that God graciously called and regenerated me to faith, repentance, and ongoing sanctification through the work of the Holy Spirit, who now indwells me.

Growing Up

I was raised in the Roman Catholic church, though my mom often spoke about the core tenets of a more Protestant faith, which helped establish an early foundation. When I was 11, we left the Catholic church and began occasionally attending an Evangelical Free church, though any consistent pursuit of God eventually became more of a side venture.

Searching for Community and Truth

In my late 20s, I felt a sudden and unexpected urge to find a church for community. Not fully understanding why, I sought out a local church and began attending in 2009. I found myself in a seeker-sensitive, prosperity gospel, Word of Faith church. In 2011, I providentially heard the true gospel of Christ preached, and the Lord graciously saved me.

Despite that, I remained entangled in hyper-charismatic deception through 2020. After leaving that church in 2017, I attended an Evangelical Free church from 2018–2020, which unfortunately also incorporated many NAR and hyper-charismatic beliefs, including prophetic ministries. During my time in both churches, I was involved in deliverance ministry and some questionable political movements (think Q-Anon and Greg Locke during his politically-charged-rage-preaching days).

God’s Conviction and New Understanding

In late 2019, God began convicting me that something was off in my beliefs, and I started searching for answers. I was introduced to Mike Winger’s YouTube ministry, where I heard exegetical, verse-by-verse preaching for the first time. Through his teachings and interviews, I repeatedly heard mention of the documentary series American Gospel. After watching the first two films, the puzzle pieces finally began to fall into place. The convictions I had but couldn’t fully articulate suddenly made sense, and I clearly saw how deceived I had been — and how I had, in turn, contributed to the deception of others. There was no turning back.

My Reformed Beliefs and Commitments

Since then, I have repented and become reformed in my theology. I now attend a Baptist church where the pastors and most of the elders hold to Reformed (Particular Baptist) theology. I adhere to the 1689 London Baptist Confession, which summarizes historic Baptist doctrine; the Five Solas, which emphasize salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone; the sovereignty of God, which reminds me that He is in control of all things; Calvinistic soteriology, which affirms God’s work in salvation from beginning to end; Covenant Theology, which recognizes God’s unified redemptive plan throughout Scripture; and partial preterist Amillennialism, which shapes my understanding of the end times.

These convictions guide how I read Scripture, understand the gospel, and live as a follower of Christ. I’ve also linked to helpful explanations for each of these doctrines above for those who want to explore them further.
